PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new fender capable of bringing an amount of absorbable energy close to optimum value. SOLUTION: The fender is provided with a hollow buffering body 1 having a gap 10 filling fluid into the inside, and a flow passage 4 flowing in and out the fluid into the gap 10. When load is applied on the aboardage of a ship, the buffering body 1 compresses and deforms and the fender produces reaction force in response to resistant force produced by flowing out the fluid in the gap 10 by itself strain and compression deformation. In addition, when the load is released, the buffering body 1 is restored by itself restoring force, and the fluid is automatically refilled through the flow passage into the gap 10 by negative pressure generated at this time.
