PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can prevent communication errors from being caused even when an image communication speed set by a communication protocol with an external device differs from a connection interface speed with the external device. SOLUTION: In the case that an image communication speed set by a communication protocol with an external device PC differs from a connection interface speed with the external device PC, a training signal (TCF) transmitted in the communication protocol is configured by continuous transmission of a prescribed amount of prescribed signals independently of the image communication speed.
