PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem where a photocurrent starts leaking into a photodetector, when the photodetector is improved in response speed so as to cope with an increase in the signal processing speed of an optical pickup and the like. SOLUTION: An N+-type surface diffusion layer 8 is arranged between P+-type surface layers 6a and 6b which serve as an anode, by which a photocurrent is restrained from leaking out through a P-type channel formed between the P+-type surface diffusion layers 6. Overall P+-type surface layers 6a and 6b are surrounded with an N+-type surface diffusion layer 4, by which a photocurrent is retrained from leaking out of the P+-type surface layers 6a and 6b to a P+-type isolation layer 3.
