PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a solid-state image pickup device, equipped with a signal processing function which is capable of emphasizing the contour of an image, restricting a shoot without emphasizing noises and impairing the image quality level. SOLUTION: A solid-state image pickup device is equipped with a circuit which adds an aperture signal as the second derivative value of a brightness signal to the brightness signal and a function to emphasize the contour of an image where the image pickup device is furthermore equipped with a maxium/ minimum value detection circuit 20 which detects the maximum and minimum value of the brightness level around target pixels and a brightness variation range limitation circuit 21, which enables the brightness level of the target pixels in which the aperture signal is added to the brightness signal to be restricted within the maximum and minimum value of brightness level detected by the maxium/minimum value detection circuit 20.
