PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire an image of an object with high image quality by efficiently lighting an object. SOLUTION: The image input device of this invention is provided with a light emission device that emits a light to light up an object, an image pickup device that converts an optical image of the object into an electric signal, and a controller that controls the operations of the light emission device and the image pickup device. The controller processes an image picked-up by the image pickup device to detect the change in the picked-up image of the object, lights the light emission device for a period when the change in the image of the object is consecutive, and stops lighting of the light emission device under a prescribed condition for a period when no change in the object image exists. Furthermore, the controller compares 1st image data denoting the 1st image picked up in advance with 2nd image data denoting a 2nd image that is sequentially picked up and updated to detect whether or not the 2nd image data have an image part different from that of the 1st image data and emits a light of the light emission device for a period when the different image exists.
