PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inspecting a liquid crystal display device capable of exactly specifying the position of a defective picture element in a liquid crystal display panel, and a device therefor. SOLUTION: The video of the liquid crystal display panel is macro-displayed on a screen, by which the approximate position of the defective picture element of the liquid crystal display pannel is detected. The part near the defective picture element of the liquid crystal display panel is photographed by a CCD camera. The defective picture element 30 of the liquid crystal display panel is displayed nearly at the center of a monitor 35 of the CCD camera. The video photographed by the CCD camera is sent to a video processor. Sampling of the luminance value near the defective picture element 30 is executed in the image processor. As a result of the sampling, the place of the defective picture Element 30 is specified in accordance with the position where the Luminance value exceeds a predetermined value (Bx2 or By2).
