PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mobile object advancing direction determining device capable of knowing, in which direction a mobile object advances along a route. SOLUTION: Plural optical beam emitters for rotationally scanning a fixed direction along a route with electromagnetic waves 42A, 42B having high directivity are arranged along the route. Mobile object advancing direction determining apparatus are arranged on the front and rear sides of a mobile object and respectively include 1st and 2nd light-receiving parts 32, 34 for receiving the electromagnetic waves and converting the waves into electric signals and a determining circuit 104 for determining the advancing direction of the mobile object, on the basis of the output order of the output signals from the 1st and 2nd light-receiving parts 32, 34.
