摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device in which a base part has a transmissivity nearly equal to that of a non-selected part while keeping the contrast ratio. SOLUTION: A TN type liquid crystal display device has a first and a second substrates 1 and 3 which are opposed to each other with a distance d1 and at least one of which is transparent, plural pixel electrodes 5 formed on one side of opposed surfaces of the first and the second substrates 1 and 3, a common electrode 7 formed on the other side of the opposed surfaces of the first and the second substrates 1 and 3, a voltage applying means 17 for applying voltage between the pixel electrodes 5 and the common electrode 7 and a twisted nematic liquid crystal EM which is interposed between the first and the second substrates 1 and 3 and in which the major axes of liquid crystal molecules are twisted continuously between the first and the second substrates 1 and 3. When the double refractive index of the twisted namatic liquid crystal EM is defined asΔn, a relationΔn×d1>2μm is satisfied. At this time, the unit of d1 isμm.
