PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a diffraction type optical element having a grating pattern which is difficult to express by functions. SOLUTION: A grating pattern which is difficult to express by functions is designed with a computer and the objective diffraction type optical element is produced, using grating data which express the grating pattern.
