PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a handsfree device to be easily attached to a portable telephone, to be safely and easily operated without any hindrance to a drive and to receive and cut off a telephone call as a portable telephone bearer intends. SOLUTION: An adapter main body 14 is inserted into and extracted from the cassette deck 10 of a car audio system mounted on an automobile and in this adapter main body 14, an electromagnetic transducing element 16 which is electromagnetically coupled abutting against a magnetic head 13 in play operation and an off-hook/on-hook switch 18 are provided; when the cassette deck 10 is placed in the play operation, the magnetic head 13 is made to about against the electromagnetic transducing element 16 and the off-hook/on-hook switch 18 is turned on to turn on the portable telephone set 15 with its in signal for a handsfree telephone call. When the cassette deck 10 is placed in stop, the magnetic head 13 is made to leave the electromagnetic transducing element 16 and the off-hook/on-hook switch 18 is turned off place the portable telephone set 15 in the on-hook state with its off signal, thereby disconnecting the line.
