1282503 Reducing Fe in titaniferous material BRITISH TITAN Ltd 22 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 38475/69 Headings C1A and C1N A titaniferous material is contacted with H 2 and added steam to reduce the iron content to Fe<SP>2+</SP>. Reduction may be effected at 600- 1100‹ C. in a fluidized bed or rotary kiln. 'The H 2 may contain 1-10% by wt. of steam, and may be diluted with N 2 , Ar, or CO 2 . The initial material may be ilmenite or leucoxene having an average particle size of 50-300 Á, and may be preoxidized to convert the iron to Fe<SP>3+</SP>. The product may be leached with HCl and the resulting solution converted to Fe oxide or Fe. |
