PURPOSE:To obtain a dielectric barrier electric discharge lamp having high light emission efficiency, stable electric discharge, and longer service life. CONSTITUTION:A dielectric barrier electric discharge lamp is provided with electrodes 4 and 5 for performing at least dielectric barrier electric discharge, an electric discharge container 1 filled with xenon gas and chloride gas, and a window member for taking out the light radiated from the xenon chloride excimer molecule produced by means of the dielectric barrier electric discharge. This dielectric barrier electric discharge lamp is so constituted that the value of (V/d)/p is within a range of 40-100 when an electric discharge maintaining voltage expressed by a voltage is V, an electric discharge gap length expressed by cm is d, and the pressure of xenon bas expressed by kilo-Pascal is p. The electric discharge container made of crystal having 10ppm or less in its OH group concentration is used. A gas of 0.1%-2% in its chlorine concentration is sealed. The gas is sealed so that the sealing pressure becomes 13.3-133 kilo- Pascal. |
