The appts. includes a mould arranged on a base plate above an aperture in the plate. An ejector member (pref. a push rod) which fits the aperture, lifts the ingot vertically from the mould. This arrangement avoids the need for complicated splitting mechanism required with moulds split along a vertical plane.
