NOVEL DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT FOR ATHEROSCLEROSIS

A method for evaluating the risk of angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, brain infarction, and/or coronary artery disease (CAD), for the diagnosing these diseases and for monitoring patients afflicted with any of said diseases, by determining the presence of Mycoplasma or antibodies thereto in a sample of a patient. The detection of Mycoplasma comprises determination of Mycoplasma antigen, detection of Mycoplasma nucleic acid and/or the detection of an antibody reactive with Mycoplasma. The method of the invention may be useful in the development of drugs for the treatment of atherosclerotic diseases.
