A coloured copolymer is built up from units (I) where A is one of the residues in which R and R' are hydrogen and/or lower alkyl and R" and R'" are lower alkyl, and units (II) or (III) different from where R1 and R2 are hydrogen and/or lower alkyl and R3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, -OCOCH3, -COOCH3 or -CN, whilst M, which may be the same or different in the various units, is a group D-NH-, derived from an amine dye with the formula D-NH2 and/or a group CnH2n+1O-, derived from an alcohol CnH2n+1 OH, where n = 1-4; at least 5% of the M units represent a dye residue.
