PEARL-BRILLIANCE INSPECTION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a pearl-brilliance inspection apparatus provided with an illumination means and an observation means which are optimum for observing the gloss (iridescence) of a rainbow color to which high attention is paid recently and which appears rarely in the peripheral edge of a pearl. SOLUTION: A pearl which is placed on a pearl mounting base on which the pearl is placed is illuminated with light by an illumination means in which an optical polarization plate is arranged between a light source and the pearl. The pearl is observed from a direction nearly at right angles to the direction of the light which irradiates the pearl by the illumination means. As a result, the gloss (the iridescence) of a rainbow color appearing mainly in the peripheral edge of the pearl is observed and inspected.
