PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical instrument which measures the distance to an object based on the picture of the object. SOLUTION: An optical instrument is provided with an image pickup unit 20 having a lens unit 22 and a light receiving section 30, an image pickup control unit 40 which controls zooming, etc., and a processing unit 60 which processes digital image data. The instrument is also provided with a display unit 100 which displays a digital image and an operation unit 110 operated by a user.
