The seat consists of two side members (3, 4) with vertical and horizontal sections forming the back and seat and fitted with a support (2) of anatomically shaped sheet material with optional padding. One of the two side members is fixed by its vertical section only to an upright (11) of the vehicle structure or other body component, and the width of the seat is determined by the length of reinforcing cross-members (5) inside the seat back which can e.g. be telescopic. In a variant of the design the seat body can be made in the form of a single moulded component, e.g. of aluminium.
