PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video camera or the like employing an ND filter that can prevent its exposure from being fixed to an exposure state unintended by a photographer without changing the exposure state during AE locking. SOLUTION: An image pickup element 8 converts an image pickup light from an object through an image pickup lens 1 into an electric signal and a camera signal processing means 12 generates a video signal. Furthermore, a microcomputer 16 controls the lightness (exposure) of the video signal. In this case, when an AE lock switch 14 is operated to place/retract the ND filter 6 in/from an optical path, the microcomputer 16 restores the exposure state to the state before the ND filter 6 is placed in/retracted from the optical path.
