PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-pressure discharge lamp, a light projecting device using the high voltage discharge lamp and a projector which increases a bonding strength of a metal foil and a sealing portion and can control generation of a crack of the sealing portion although a high temperature and a high pressure are generated on lighting. SOLUTION: A ribbon-form metal plate which is sealed gas-tightly in a sealing portion of a light-projecting gas-tight vessel formed from a quartz glass to connect electrically an electrode and an outer lead wire and maintains a gas-tightness of the sealing portion is formed so that a shape of a side connected to the electrode satisfies the following requirement; 0.05<=S/L<=0.6, 0.75<=V/W<=0.98, and 0.80<=t/T<=0.98. (L is an entire length mm of a metal foil, S is a length mm of a narrow portion of a metal foil, W is a width mm of a widest portion of a metal foil, V is a width mm of a narrowest portion of a metal foil, T is a maximum thickness mm of a metal foil, and t is a minimum thickness mm of a metal foil).
