PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of rewriting a program for display device facilitating to avoid rewriting by mistake an area other than that to be rewritten. SOLUTION: A rewriting program is divided into plural blocks corresponding to those of an existing program, and identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration with the same value as reference identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration are written beforehand at a prescribed position in a block required to be rewritten, and identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration with a different value from that of the reference identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration are written beforehand at a prescribed position in a block not required to be rewritten, and when the existing program is rewritten by the rewriting program, it is judged whether or not the identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration coincide with the reference identification data for demanding or not demanding alteration, block by block between the rewriting program and the existing program corresponding to each other, and the program is rewritten only between the blocks of which both data match with each other.
