PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the most appropriate design technique for an internal duct of a flat cross sectional hydraulic torque converter. SOLUTION: A hydraulic torque converter is formed for an oblateness (2L/H) and a torus inside and outside diameter ratio (r/R) to satisfy 0.55<(2L/H)<0.75 (1) and 0.35<(r/R)<0.40 (2). A duct shape of a turbine member is defined in order that the position of a contact point between a straight line having a slope of 45 deg. and a curved line forming a outer periphery surface of a duct of the turbine member may be located within the region surrounded by two straight line represented by equations of Y=(R/L)×X×-+(6/4)×R (3) and Y=(R/ L)×X+(7/4)×R (4), when the central position on a rotating shaft is defined to be an origin point, an axial direction is defined to be an X direction, and a diametral direction is defined to be a Y direction.
