Pressure sensitive adhesives with low level of residual monomers and process for manufacturing same

A pressure-sensitive adhesive that comprises one or more polymers prepared from olefinic monomers. After completion of polymerisation, or copolymerisation, of the polymer(s), the adhesive is hydrogenated in an organic solvent in the presence of a heterogeneous or homogenous catalyst. This reaction is carried out at a temperature of up to 150oC and at a hydrogen pressure of up to 100 bar. This process forms a pressure-sensitive adhesive with a content of free monomers of less than 0.3% by weight. Also disclosed is a transdermal therapeutic system, a medicinal, veterinary, cosmetic or food sector composition that comprises the above adhesive.
