The carrier and ejector for a radioactive tracer container in an ampoule (11) consists of an ampoule holder and breaker (42), a filter (52) to retain glass fragments from the broken ampoule, and a remote-controlled isolator for the tracer. The holder is preferably in the form of a sealed lead container (25) with an inner housing (26) and a liner (50) with positioning lugs (51) for the ampoule. The isolator comprises a non-return valve (27) located downstream of the filter, and an isolating valve downstream of the non-return valve and pneumatically controlled.
