An ultrasonic machining device (4) is moved, along a planned groove forming line, over the rear surface (3b) of a resin skin (3) having the front surface thereof closely fixed and held to the flat surface (1a) of a surface plate (1) to sequentially melt the skin resin via ultrasonic vibration and form a wide linear groove (6); a residual portion (6b) at the bottom of the linear groove (6) is photographed from one direction of the groove opening side by using a laser displacement sensor and a CCD camera (10) and is image-processed to thereby measure and record the wall thickness of the residual portion (6b), whereby making available a feedback material for forming the linear groove (6) with a good reproducibility.
