The linear actuator, comprising a rod (24) which is moved by an electromagnetic system between two end positions in a housing, has a position sensor made from a portion (54) of the rod with different electromagnetic properties from the remainder, and at least one magnetic flux detector (56) situated radially in between two magnets (60) with opposite directions of magnetisation. The housing has a sleeve of a ferro magnetic material covering the detector and magnets to return the magnetic flux.
