The machine enables several stacked workpieces to be moved in all necessary directions in front of the vertically running band saw blade. The automatic cutting machine includes a holding element (5) which is intended to retain either a single sheet, or a stack of sheets which are to be cut. The holding element is able to be translated horizontally along two perpendicular axes, and pivoted about a vertical axis, in order to bring the sheet(s) to be cut into contact with a vertically running band saw blade (2). The mechanism includes a mobile carriage (3) supported over a base (1), with a pivot (30) supporting a pantograph comprising a main (40) and secondary (41) arm forming a deformable parallelogram. A motor is provided with a pinion running on an arc-shaped rack (31) to displace the arm.
