PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a CPU operating at high speed or a correlation operation device must be mounted to perform complicated processing in order to perform picture processing at high speed when distance measurement using a conventional artificial retina LSI having a parallax is applied for a camera, so that costs of individual parts increase and a range finder itself is possibly large-sized because of the increase of the number of parts, and it cannot be mounted on a small-sized and inexpensive device like a compact camera though being able to be mounted on a specific single-lens reflex camera or the like. SOLUTION: The range finder is provided with an AF area sensor, where an imaging device arranged so as to receive two images having as parallax ad a light reception signal processing circuit for pressing of a light reception signal of this imaging device are formed on the same semiconductor substrate, and detects a principal subject in a photographic picture on the basis of sensor data (outline data) integrated in the AF area sensor in the outline detection mode and sets a distance measurement area including this principal subject to perform operation for distance measurement. |
