PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make small in size the step of a flank part of a tape cassette and to smoothly open and close the front lid. SOLUTION: This tape cassette 10 has a mouth part 21, which is open to the front, top, and bottom at the front part of a cassette shell 20 which contain tape reels 40 and 50 wound with a magnetic tape 30, has a part of the magnetic tape positioned across the front end of the mouse part, and also has a front lid 60 covering the front side of the magnetic tape, and the cassette shell has a slider 80 which can move forwards and backwards, the flank part of the slider along the flank of the cassette shell has a lid support part 83 at a front end part and a main surface part 82 positioned outside the lid support part, and the front lid has a front part 61 covering the front of the tapelike recording medium and a flank part 62 projecting backward from both the ends of the front part. Then the flank part is supported rotatably on the lid support part of the slider and the front end part of the main surface part of the slider and the flank part of the front lid have overlap parts 62c and 82b, overlapping with each other in the right-to-left direction.
