The liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel (10) comprised of a drive cell (1) and a correction cell (11) for correcting the phase difference. The correction cell (11) overlaps with the drive sell (1) in such a way that the defective area (20a2) near the inside of the sealing member (8) for the drive cell (1) is superposed on the normal area (20b1) of the correction cell (11). This structure prevents defective areas in the drive and correction cells from being superposed, reducing display defects caused by the defective areas.
