Video data coded by the MPEG method is recorded in specific units of one or more GOPs in an endless recording area on a recording medium. A mark is set up every specific unit. The positions of the marks, the size of the specific unit, and the positions of AAUs corresponding to the GOPs constituting the specific units are recorded in correlation with the mark in a database (116). Referring to the database, a reproducible area is set up. When a new specific unit is recorded, the mark corresponding to the old specific unit to be overwritten is deleted from the database. When the mark is deleted, the AAU corresponding to the mark is overwritten with a padding stream to record the video data. Thus, seamless reproduction of endless-recorded video is possible.
