PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone system which ensures the operability of character inputting that uses a full keyboards, workability at the time when a document is prepared, the portability of a portable telephone terminal and an external input device, the battery life of the portable telephone terminal and the handling ability of prepared character data. SOLUTION: This system is used when character inputting is performed to the portable telephone terminal 1 such as a portable telephone and a PHS, includes a circuit and a program which enable character data to be transmitted and received between the terminal 1 and an external character input device 2 in both the terminal 1 and the device 2 and also provides the device 2 with a displaying part 202, a document preparing function and a memory part storing inputted character data.
