PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multibeam scanner capable of printing an image whose deterioration of image quality is restrained to be little at higher speed in the case of printing with low resolution than in the case of printing with high resolution. SOLUTION: A control signal is transmitted from a resolution switching circuit 91 to a motor driving circuit 92 in the control part 9 of the multibeam scanner so as to rotate a photoreceptor drum driving motor 88 at speed in accordance with the resolution. Then, a resolution signal is transmitted from the circuit 91 to an image generation circuit 93, so that image data in accordance with the resolution are generated and laser diodes LD1 and LD2 are oscillated by an LD1 control circuit 95 and an LD2 control circuit 96 through a modulation circuit 94 based on the image data. In the case of exposing with the low resolution, the circuit 94 exposes the scanning line of the last of a preceding line group and the scanning line of the top of a succeeding line group according to the same image signal. Therefore, a part where a scanning interval is long is made inconspicuous and the deterioration of image quality is prevented.
