PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external-resonator semiconductor laser where its kink is suppressed, using a simple configuration. SOLUTION: An external-resonator semiconductor laser has a luminous element 1, where one of its pair of opposite end surface to each other is a highly reflecting surface 1a and the other of the same is a low reflecting surface 1b, and has an optical fiber 3 coupled optically to the low reflecting surface 1b of the luminous element 1 near, whose end portion a diffraction grating 3a functioning as a reflector is formed, and is so configured that a laser resonator is formed out of the highly reflecting surface 1a of the luminous element 1 and the diffraction grating 3a formed in the optical fiber 3. In the external- resonator semiconductor laser, there is further provided in the optical fiber 3 a light-returning generating reflector 3b for returning the reflected light to the laser resonator.
