PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens system which is composed of two groups, each of which consists of one single lens, and has less variance in aberrations at the time of zooming and of which the the diameter can be made large and the zoom ratio can be raised. SOLUTION: The zoom lens system is composed of a first lens group G1 having a negative refracting power and a second lens group G2 having a positive refracting power, and they are moved while changing the interval on the optical axis between them to change the focal length. The first lens group G1 consists of one single lens of a homogeneous medium which has a powerful concave directed to the image surface side, and the second lens group G2 consists of one single lens of a homogeneous medium, and a stop S is arranged between the first lens group G1 and the second lens group G2, and the first lens group G1 is largely moved from the object side to the image side and the second lens group G2 is moved from the image side to the object side at the time of zooming from the wide angle end to the telephoto end.
