SOLUTION: An automatic focusing device for electronic camera is provided with a photographic lens 11 which forms a subject image, a CCD imaging device 13 which converts the subject image formed by the photographic lens 11 to a picture signal, an active trigonometrical distance measurement mechanism 30 which throws light to a subject to measure an objective subject distance, and a focusing mechanism 20 in the contrast system which uses a high frequency component of an output signal in the center area of the imaging device 13 to perform focusing, and the photographic lens 11 is driven on the basis of the focusing mechanism 20 in the contrast system to perform focusing after being driven on the basis of the distance measurement output of the mechanism 30.
