PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a time required for charging a battery while the deterioration of the life of the battery is suppressed. SOLUTION: A battery temperature rise marginΔT(= Tmax - Tinit) is obtained from a battery temperature Tinit when charging is started and the upper limit Tmax of the battery temperature. A target charging capacityΔSOC (= SOCend - SOCinit) is obtained from an initial residual capacity SOCinit when the charging is started and a target residual capacity SOCend when the charging is finished. Further, the upper limit of the battery temperature riseΔT/ΔSOC is obtained from those values. Then the maximum value Imax of a charging current is determined so as to have the temperature T of the battery in a charging state not exceed the maximum value Tmax by the map reference in accordance with the upper limitΔT/ΔSOC of the battery temperature rise (step 5). An operator charges the battery with a charging current Iset which is set in accordance with the maximum value Imax. |
