摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can generate binary image data with two setting values whose luminous quantity and threshold are respectively different from each other only through one paper setting operation. SOLUTION: In the image reader, a paper sheet 2 and an image sensor 3 are relatively moved in reciprocating directions, light is emitted on the paper sheet 2, the image sensor 3 scans the image forming side of the paper sheet 2 to convert the image into image data, the image data are binarized on the basis of a set threshold and binary image data are generated. The 1st setting value corresponding to a character consisting of a luminous quantity of the light emitted on the paper sheet 2 and of the threshold and the 2nd setting value corresponding to a line consisting of a luminous quantity of the light emitted on the paper sheet 2 and of the threshold are set in advance to the image reader. In the case that the paper sheet 2 is relatively moved with respect to the image sensor 3 in a forward path direction, the binary image data of the image forming side of the paper are generated according to the luminous quantity and the threshold of the 1st setting. In the case that the paper sheet 2 is relatively moved with respect to the image sensor 3 in a backward path direction, the binary image data of the image forming side of the paper are generated according to the luminous quantity and the threshold of the 2nd setting value.
