PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem involved in a conventional video movie having a camera whose image pickup direction is turned with respect to a display section such as an LCD, that two kinds of fonts, that is, a usual font and an inverted font are required to have when displaying characters on the display section in the case of picking up a side of a photographer onto a screen of the display section (in a confrontation mode). SOLUTION: In the case of the confrontation mode, only characters are horizontally flipped, the flipped characters are superimposed on a display video signal and then the resulting video signal is horizontally flipped.
