PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a matrix type display device which can automatically adjust the display density to always keep the most suitable display density in a case where the display density is changed dependently on the display state of a picture. SOLUTION: The matrix type display device is provided with a scanning line driving part 102 and a data line driving part 103 which output driving voltage waveforms to realize line sequential driving, a driving voltage generation part 101 which supplies a driving voltage according to a display density set value to each driving part, a data change measuring part 105 which obtains the frequency in change of a data voltage for an entire picture on the basis of display data, and a display density setting part 106 which successively updates the display density set value on the basis of the obtained frequency of changes.
