The fastening system consists of a patch of material (13) attached to the back of the broad end (11) of a necktie, through which the narrow end (12) can be inserted after the tie has been knotted. The patch has two or more transverse sleeves (16) with open ends (17), allowing a tieclip to be inserted at a point that does not coincide with a shirt button, allowing the tie to be fastened invisibly to the front of the shirt.
