PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil detecting apparatus which detects an oil film on the surface of water and by which an oil can be monitored automatically and continuously in a water supply facility such as a water purification plant, a nursery or the like or in a factory drainage facility, by solving a problem that a watertight mechanism is required because the apparatus is used on the water and that the failure, the malfunction or the like of the apparatus is caused because the temperature at the inside of the apparatus is raised due to heat generated in the operation of the apparatus or due to heat by sunlight. SOLUTION: A heat dissipating mechanism in which a high heat-conductivity material such as an aluminum material or the like is used partly for an enclosure and a float is installed. The enclosure and the float which are made of the high heat-conductivity material are brought into contact. The float is immersed in water. As a result, heat inside the enclosure is made to escape to the outside, and the temperature of the enclosure can be lowered.
