PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide am aluminum titanate sintered compact which is stably usable even at an elevated temperature while maintaining the intrinsic characteristics of the aluminum titanate sintered compact having a small coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent corrosion resistance and improving mechanical strength. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing raw material powder for manufacturing the aluminum titanate sintered compact consisting in pulverizing a mixture containing 100 pts.wt. aluminum titanate crystal and 2 to 6 powder spinel crystal and the method for manufacturing the aluminum titanate sintered compact consisting in molding the raw material powder for manufacturing the aluminum titanate sintered compact obtained by the method, then sintering the molding.
