PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the influence of the deviation of the intake timing of steering torque from the calculation timing of a command current value to an electric motor. SOLUTION: An electric motor 14 assists the turning movement of a steering wheel 11 by its rotation. By referring an assist map preliminarily prepared in a memory unit 42, a CPU 41 determines a command current value which corresponds to the steering torque and the car speed respectively detected by a steering torque sensor 21 and a speed sensor 22 to control the rotation of the electric motor 14. The time-interval of calculation of the command current value is allowed to be equal to integral multiples of the intake-time of the steering torque and car speed so that the deviation of the intake-timing of steering torque from the calculation and control timing of the command current value is always equalized.
