METHOD FOR PURIFYING SORBIC ACID

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying sorbic acid by which the high-purity sorbic acid hardly causing discoloration at the time of drying is obtained in high yield. SOLUTION: This method for purifying the sorbic acid comprises (i) a step for obtaining a water dispersion of the sorbic acid in the presence of an inert gas, forming the obtained dispersion into a homogeneous aqueous solution by raising the temperature, and adding an activated carbon to the resultant aqueous solution, and (ii) a step for filtering the activated carbon in an inert gas atmosphere, and cooling the obtained filtrate to crystallize the sorbic acid.
