PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer, a control method thereof and an information recording medium in which maintenance work and failure analysis are facilitated by storing the number of operating times of various replaceable parts or devices in a printer while integrating for each replaced part. SOLUTION: The printer comprises a print processing section for printing characters or figures, a section cooperating with the print processing section to load an operating part or consumable good, e.g. a replaceable part or device, a section for counting the number of using times or operating times of a replaceable part or device, a section for detecting loading of a replaceable part or device on a loading part, and a nonvolatile storage section for storing a counted numeric value in a predetermined region. When the detecting section detects replacement of a replaceable part or device, the region storing an old count is preserved and the count of a new replaceable part or device is stored in a new region.
