PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fill an ink holding member with ink simply and rapidly over the whole thereof even if the ink holding member is hydrophobic. SOLUTION: An ink tank 200 is held on a tank holding stage 101 and a predetermined quantity of ink is injected in the ink tank 200 from an ink supply mechanism 104 in such a state that an ink holding member 201 is opened to the atmosphere and a stage moving mechanism 102 is driven to reciprocally move the tank holding stage 101 to allow the same to collide with stopper members 103, 121. Inertial force larger than the sum of the static ink holding force of the ink holding member 201 and the dynamic resistance force against the movement of ink is applied to the injected ink by the collison of the tank holding stage 101.
