PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new nitrilase gene derived from a bacterial strain of genus Rhodococcus, a method for effectively producing the nitrilase using a genetically engineered method, a producing method for carboxylic acids from nitrile compounds using the nitrilase and especially a method for producing cyanocarboxylic acids by selectively converting a specific nitrile group of a polynitrile compound to a carboxylic group. SOLUTION: A DNA sequence of the gene of the nitrilase derived from the bacterial strain of genus Rhodococcus and having an excellent site-selective hydrolyzing ability to an aromatic polynitrile compound having plural nitrile groups, and the effective method for producing carboxylic acids using the nitrilase are provided. |
