PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a compact device and to improve printing quality by preventing change in a relative position between a paper and a print head. SOLUTION: There is disclosed a device for supporting a printing medium in a printer. The device comprises a platen 30 having a port 42 for transferring a vacuum pressure to its support face 28, a belt 20 having a hole 52 and a sheet of a printing medium 36 which is attached thereto so as to move on the support face of the platen 30, and a belt support means that supports the belt 20 at the upper portion of the support face of the platen 30 and transfers a vacuum pressure from the support face of the platen 30 through the hole 52 of the belt 20.
