PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transverse cross-jointing device with multiple degrees of freedom lockable in a desired position by a single locking mechanism. SOLUTION: The cross-jointing device 10 for the spine joints together a pair of vertically extending rods 12, 14 anchored to the spine and has a first element 18 including a rod grip portion formed at a first end and a circular arm 28 extending along a first axis 64 from a second end. A second element 20 has the rod grip portion formed at the first end and a flange portion 32 located at the second end and including a hole 38, the flange portion 32 having a bearing surface 36 surrounding the hole 38 and another bearing surface 40 formed on the inner surface of the hole 38. A pivot element 44 has a head 45 including a through-hole engaging the arm of the first element, a threaded section 50 extending from the head 45 along a second axis 42, and a cylindrical bearing surface 48 engageable with the bearing surface on the inner surface of the hole 38. A locknut 52 is engageable with the threaded section 50 of the pivot element 44.
